Generations do as generations do. Individual parents do parenting. As the generations, beginning with the Boomers began to despise their parents, this problem entered generationally. However, individual parents can and do get respect from their children. I respected and listened to my parents. My children, grown and otherwise, do the same.
All children respect some authority. They listen to some voices and not others. It is the job of a parent to make certain that children listen to wisdom.
Spoken like a person who doesn't understand history. The fact that Baby Boomers failed to improve upon themselves with the wisdom of the Greatest Generation is not indicative of anything about my cohort (Generation X). Generation X is morally superior to the preceding Boomer cohort and politically more right wing at an earlier stage. We heeded the example of the Greatest Generation instead of the foolish narcissism of Boomers.
My posts are being downvoted by people who have disappointing children but who do not wish to shoulder blame or responsibility for that. "Sad. Loser parents are failing", as GEOTUS might say. It's time to learn from the parents who have failed and raise a better generation, not simply justify our mistakes. Grow up.
I presume you are not aware of Christian parenting principles as discussed in the holy scriptures. In the Christian faith we are taught that there is accountability in domestic matters. This is opposed to the worldly philosophy that supposes all do as they wish and there is no accountability taken for the actions of others.
