u/MrJimLahey had the great idea to create a thread where people can share their experiences taking ivermectin. I thought it might be helpful to have a similar thread on NAC.
Most resources I've seen recommend 1200mg of NAC daily. I was able to buy it in 200mg capsules and since the pharmacy didn't have much quantity to sell, I've just been taking a single 200mg capsule daily.
Everyone says to take it on an empty stomach to I take it first thing out of bed, before coffee or breakfast or anything else. The first time I took it, the urge to empty my bowels came on strongly just within 20 minutes of swallowing the pill. Overall it felt like I was detoxing rather than like I had poisoned myself though.
Although I haven't had acne in decades, within a day of taking my first NAC capsule I got a bright red zit on my cheek and the whole area stayed swollen for a good week. Again, I assume it was my body getting rid of toxins. As I have continued taking 200 mg daily of NAC the acne has cleared up and not returned. I still feel as though my bowels empty more completely than they had before.
I'm not sure how much of an effect only 200mg a day really has with regard to covid, but I can always ramp up the dosage if feeling unwell.
Would be very interested to know how others have felt once starting NAC.
I read about NAC as few weeks ago. I have fatty liver (NAFLD) that typically goes away when i lose weight. Sadly, right now I'm not doing well on the weight loss / energy front.
Went ahead and ordered some but waiting for it to get here. Ordered when I noticed amazon pulled NAC products so I had to order from elsewhere. SUS AF that they pulled it.
Had to email my primary doc about something else last week and asked about NAC, and he said he would not recommend but could mention to my GI at my liver follow-up. Gave no reasons, just a short response.
I've been doing Vitamin C / D since covid started, and have recently added Zinc 1 or 2 days a week or daily if I start to get cold symptoms.
That said, how do you dose the NAC? Taken at night? during day? With food? Prob going to try it anyway. Doc also thinks I should get the vax so not much faith in them anyway at this point.
NAC should be taken on an empty stomach. You may find that it helps you lose weight. It seems to have this effect of moving digested food that was in the system previously on down the line such that you have... well, let's just say, more efficient bowel movements than before.
I know I have lost weight on NAC over the past couple months. Not huge amounts from probably 6 pounds? BAsically I notice that a larger percentage of whatever I eat gets excreted rather than stored in the body as fat.
Because I wasn't able to get huge amounts of NAC, I have not been taking the 600mg/day that docs have recommended for covid prevention. Instead I have just been taking a single 200mg pill a day, first thing out of bed.
and just need to drink enough water to avoid renal stones?
