Something I wondered about this morning, and I don't expect you to know the answer, but you might have some insight. They say that high BP is a precursor to stroke. but what if high BP is often associated with a stroke because it's brought on by a stroke? My grandmother never in her life had high blood pressure, but she had a debilitating stroke. I don't trust the medical system to know the truth of this, nor to tell us if they did, but it's an interesting question (or at least I think it is).
You're right, I don't have an exact answer. Yes, high BP can be a precursor to stroke, however there are other causes such as arteriosclerosis (formerly known as hardening of the arteries), which just means that the arteries become rigid over time and blood flow is decreased. That condition is usually, but not always associated with aging. If blood flow to the brain is decreased, no matter the cause it can cause stroke. So, yes you can have a stroke and still have normal BP.
