So now they have risked everything by too quickly trying to regain their advances in objectives and time in such a way as to allow it to be understood by the people. They must have an end date. Why? What is it? What is its significance? I keep coming back to these questions. Why would they risk it all instead of just slowly regaining their advances and continuing as normal?

Why kill off so many of us before then? Not sure honestly.
they would want to kill off everyone who could be competition for resources such as food etc after the strike. I had read Apophis asteroid could strike. It would cause massive devastation but not end humanity. So the people that are still alive would present competition to elite survivors who undoubtedly would have built bunkers to shelter in for the impact event.
