People can be emotionally triggered when they hear a truth because acknowledging that truth means they'll have to look at something about themselves that will be difficult to contemplate. This causes them to feel very uncomfortable, so they take out their angst on the one who spoke the truth because 'if you hadn't opened your big mouth, I wouldn't be feeling discomfort.'
Yes people continue to resist the truth because it allows them to procrastinate the acknowledgment of their own cowardice and stupidity.
Not stupidity really. They need to accept the truth that they willingly made the choice to believe the lies. They need to accept full responsibility for their choices. Many people play the blame game but it always boomerangs back at some point. Once accepted, and one forgives themself, peace and an open mind and heart, is the result.
