“While the department cites masks as being helpful in reducing the spread of Covid-19, its claims that hospitals are being overwhelmed and mortality rates are increasing are misleading though useful in rationalizing their mandates. Moreover, even if hospitals are at risk of the shrinking spread between available and occupied ICU beds, there are market solutions to the problems that public health officials are otherwise trying to solve with legislation.
This ignorance of the capabilities of markets and their ability to allow individuals and businesses to find solutions to societal problems sets a worrisome precedent for the actions of public health officials going forward. “
I read a post recently here from a nurse who explained that the ICU in a hospital is not a set number of beds, but that the beds can be increased as needed. So there is never a "full" ICU, because there is always space for more patients somewhere in the hospital. I didn't read this too closely, but maybe that fact pertains to this article, which caused my eyes to glaze over.
