That makes NO sense. August 31st is 8 days away. There are an estimated 10,000 Americans remaining in Afghanistan. That is only evacuating 1,200 people per day.

Assuming 300 passengers per passenger aircraft, that's only 4 planes per day to coordinate. The Taliban obviously WANT foreigners to leave, so aren't standing in anybody's way who is headed for the airport.

Negotiate and secure a few major roads heading to the airport, so that people can self-evacuate safely at least that far. Then set up the aircraft. If you have 8 passenger planes, you can easily evacuate most of the people who want to leave in the span of a few days.
