All universal vaccination with this same limited vaccine is going to do is make enough mutations so that binding site will be irrelevant. These viruses are self replicating chemicals, they aren't exactly alive, and environmental pressure like a bunch of fake antibodies to one binding site will require them to learn a new way to work around that site. That's what the long dry tracking paper is about, sequencing lots of virus and locating little differences all over. The other paper doesn't come out and say it plainly, but this is why natural immunity from having had the disease is better, the body made more types of antibody..
So far it looks like the unvaxxed will either turn out to have immunity already from other corona infections, or they will get a better grade of immunity than from the vaccine if they get sick and recover. This imo would be the best way to get everyone as immune as possible, provided they can get therapy when ill. That's the kicker. Right now the treatment is spotty and uncoordinated, it all adds to the fear factor. It's too late to say "no one should be vaxxed." We only have the other two options now. It also looks like the predictions of "leaky vaccine" are coming true, and if ADE shows up in a big way, everyone will be in trouble, including those with natural immunity. At least it works that way with Dengue fever. Maybe that is your friend's worry and he thinks somehow vaccinating everyone will prevent it, but I can't see how with these mRNA vaccines. It seems to me that it will only make things worse and I'm sure someone is already doing research on whether the pseudo antibodies created by the vaccine work the same way as natural ones in ADE. And nothing will prevent a new deadly SARS or MERS from emerging. They already did on their own in the past. Covid-19 is SARS-2. And there are corona viruses in many animal populations, they are also mutating away and looking for opportunity to jump to another species. I think treatment is the only way.
