I had an older sibling, with a medical issue, that was home schooled for three years by my mother and aunt (who was an elementary teacher). What I remember are the visitors. There was always someone inspecting our hovel and evaluating the conditions therein. Teachers from the school, principal, county extension officers, county health department and a couple of times a county judge. I did not understand it all at the the time, but they were extremely loathe to allow this travesty of freedom to occur. We all have done well in life. Two of my children were educated in parochial schools through 12th grade. Expensive but rewarding.
