I'm trying to make sense of this. Were they Christian missionaries? I can't wrap my head around why any family (kids, etc) would travel to Afghanistan of all places?
Leaving the country are terrified to live in, coming here and becoming an American, then taking your children back to the country that you flee from. Natural selection
I don't necessarily disagree. Only a few days ago I was trying to wrap my head around sympathizing with people who have been told by two different Presidents that we were about to leave Afghanistan, and for there to be an extension on when we left, and that it was essentially common knowledge on every side of the political spectrum that the Taliban would inevitably retake the country once we left.
But visiting family in the country that used to be your home? That makes sense to me. Still should have left before now. But if they had literally no other way to see their families, then I can't exactly blame them for being there, especially if they're worried that their family might be on the Taliban's chopping block.
Whether or not they're Afghan immigrants isn't relevant to me. We should go get them if they are US citizens. I remain a little irritated that they didn't hear all the warning bells we were setting off, but Americans are Americans. Americans are perfectly allowed to be as stupid as they want and still be Americans and entitled to the things that America promises to its citizens.
Per comments: This wasn't a school trip, they were visiting their families. These are afgans.

Immigration is hard in this country, especially recently.
They want to be safe in America but not completely abandon their families who can’t get through immigration any time soon.
What is the alternative solution to visiting them in their own country?
Understanding that they've made a choice.
However, in this case they've ALSO made a choice.

They can stay the fuck home in wherever they are from.were full.
Not going into a war zone with your children - and risking them dying. If the kids dye - the legacy end. So it’s a personal choice.
