I'd take it a step further: only land owners get to vote. I'm sick of people with no stake in the game voting to steal more from me and mine so they can sit on their lazy asses and do nothing but suck off taxpayer's tits.
When I was a kid, my grandfather lived in Florida and used to get government cheese and rice and dry milk. They gave it to the elderly and to the poor who didn't make enough to feed their kids or themselves. They didn't give them a frigging charge card so their feelings wouldn't be hurt and they could pretend to be "rich" and buy steaks and whatever else. They gave them the bare necessities to survive. We need to go back to that. Making people who are too lazy to work or better themselves feel better by letting them live like those who do work is just wrong.
And for the bleeding hearts, I'm not saying let them starve. I'm not saying let their kids starve. I'm just saying they don't "deserve" to be given what others have to work for. They don't need birthday cakes and soda and steaks to survive. A big bag of rice, another of beans, and dried milk and cheese will help them survive. If they want more than that, go get a fucking job. Or two.
Except that they (powers that be) are actively making it substantially harder to purchase and own anything. Eventually they'll apply that to you as well in the form of ridiculous taxes until you too will count yourself among those that own nothing and "are happy about it" and then you too will have no say nor vote (as you requested). If that's the only barrier to who can or can't vote I assure you they would make sure it all shook out that way. Hell, Blackrock is already laying the foundation for it with the housing market.
Be careful what you wish for. You just might get a big equalization event- but it won't break remotely the way your hoping.
I understand the sentiment but property ownership to vote will create an even smaller elite class. That’s what our founding fathers fought against.
I don’t think property ownership is the issue. Instilling morals back into culture is the main issue IMHO. People felt shame before when they were overweight. People felt shame before when they were lying around at home being unproductive. Mainstream culture has been legitimizing vice for way too long and even promoting it as virtue.
I suppose this has always been how the pendulums swings.
I agree that instilling orals back into culture is the main issue, but how, exactly, can we do that when immoral people run everything? This bleeds over into all walks of life, too, and it's the exact reason that those who live on the government dole instead of working for a living not only see no problem with voting for those who want to raise taxes on the working class, but they honestly hold so much hatred and vitriol for anyone who has something they don't that they want to steal everything from those who work for themselves.
Tax laws are made to protect the uber rich and the uber poor while screwing everyone in the middle (aka, the working class). And, really, that's what this whole nightmare is about, when you boil it down: the uber rich hate seeing anyone but themselves able to afford houses and cars and a comfortable life. They want to destroy it and get the support of the "gimme" class by fanning the flames of their hatred of the middle and upper middle class working families. The irony of it is that the "gimme" class is too stupid to realize their dear government will never give them what they want--nope, they'll just destroy the middle class so everyone else will be slaves. Or dead. While the elites continue to keep what they've got because no one ever fixes the real problem.
So yeah, while I get what you're saying about how reserving voting rights for those who own land would make a smaller elite class, it's giving the ability to vote to everyone, no matter their stake in the game (or lack thereof) that has gotten us into this mess to begin with. When elected officials have the right to steal from people however they wish, you can't give the right to vote to those who only benefit from higher taxes and don't suffer the consequences of said high taxes, be it through tax shelters or "earned income credits" (which are utterly ridiculous).
When you give people the right to vote for stealing the wealth of others, you end up with what we have now, which is too many people wanting to ride on the backs of those few who do the work. And once it reaches a certain point, the only choice is to have Atlas shrug.
Maybe people should pass a test before they get to vote.
But more to the point, it’s the voting system that needs to be fixed. Which we are seeing some movement in that arena so there’s progress. Most of the useful idiots are to lazy to go vote anyways. If it weren’t for the cheating, they wouldn’t have won.
No simple solution. Smarter minds than mine will be needed.
