why use this when there are offline/backcountry maps you can download to your phone?
The network could go down?!
that's why i said offline.
is there something this map shows that others don't?
and how do you keep your phone charged when the grid is down and your walking for days? That trusty made in china solar charger?
yes. not all solar chargers are useless. you have to know how to search and buy something good. anything from a retail shelf usually isn't the best of products to buy.
you can extend your phones life by airplane mode.
you can also extend the life with emergency power saving mode.
having a print out is good just as well as having offline maps on your phone. one doesn't supersede the other.
if we actually were in a catastrophic event, anything can happen. you could lose phone power, lose your map, lose your phone, or have it all stolen.
recently I've been learning how to navigate by observing environmental clues and such. so far it's not hard but if one doesn't know what to look for.....
