We even left a day early. We stranded American citizens. Sounds to me like there was blackmail involved.

Will the military remove the Commander-in-Chief if he was being blackmailed to leave Americans behind?

Good question. My thoughts - we would not want to be there on 9/11 so the date prior to that of consequence is 8/31, end of the month.
