Didn't they leave the military dogs behind in Viet Nam?
Also, since they left behind aircraft, tanks, humvees, artillery, weapons, and pallets of cash it seems there is precedence for leaving behind valuable items.
I have no idea. However, aren't military dogs actually service members? I thought that after Viet Nam their designation changed from equipment to personnel. I need more info.
You're right. They were considered personnel during the Viet Nam war. Some of the dogs were euthanized after the war and the rest were given to the South Vietnamese army. The military dog handlers lobbied Congress to have this changed. Thank goodness.

Curious as to why someone would downvote this comment?
