Just a clarification- The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to pay $400K to settle the case, and the State of CA pays $400K to settle their part of the lawsuit. No money came from the City of Los Angeles. The City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and the State of CA are separate government entities with their own budgets. This is a great win for freedom of speech and the freedom to worship without the government interference. Grace Community Church in Sun Valley CA., which is a suburb of the City of Los Angeles, has been fighting for their right to worship for over a year. Praise God for providing the victory.
Church didn't want or ask for money. The church did ask for their lawyers to be compensated, as they took the case on that basis. And earned it.
No glory in reducing the city's treasury, but there is glory in keeping the church doors and schools open, all mask-free, despite the city's attempted crackdown.

Good point! Article says the county also paid almost a million in legal fees of their own on top of the settlement.
