But do they fly them into confirmed hostile territory? (not being snarky, I really don't know).

Not normally. They fly the military from the US to safe-ish hubs in Qatar, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, etc. Military aircraft then ferries the troops from those hubs to the hostile area.
