Right, regarding variants this is correct. If the article is ro be believed though, they have samples of the original virus:

The company has samples of the virus from the first Covid-19 case in the U.S., back in January 2020

Having a sample and isolating are 2 different things, however. This is definitely admitting the variants are not actual isolates from real variants in the wild though.
