My dad was a WWII Navy vet. Died at age 94 about 3 years ago. Navy came and played taps and presented the flag to myself. It was awesome watching how they honored him, folded the flag, etc, and marched away after. The flag sits in my office in a nice glass case given to me by the funeral home.
Same, my dad was honored this way at his service in Arlington cemetery. Very moving ceremony and gun salute. They presented the flag to my mother and gave the urn to me. I walked with them about a block away to his final resting place along one of the walls.
Thank you for your service. My grandfather’s funeral is the only veteran funeral I’ve attended and the only time I cried was when they played “Taps” and presented my Dad with the flag. It’s such a moving ceremony! I can’t imagine having to present the flag, especially for someone taken at such a young age. Thank you for sharing your story with us! ❤️🇺🇸
