“There's a cult of ignorance in the US, there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” ―Issac Asimov

Unfortunately, the "anti-intellectualism" he was complaining about was people thinking for themselves. This quote is from an article in which defended elitism and argued that we should all be educated to think like the Elites.
Here it is:

So he wrote a quote which is perfect to use against exactly what he was arguing for.

Intellectualism: a false front for doing bad shit to simple people. If you have to point out you are an intellectual, individually or as a group, then you likely are just an brainwashed attention seeker. A man is known by His words. If your words have wisdom then they and not you carry the weight. Asimov's is a hack producing materials for the d.s.
I think you can be an intellectual but with humility. It is a matter of personal choice.
I think most of the intellectuals you refer to are more in line with the Dunning-Krueger effect. They perceive their intellect as much higher than it really is or maybe they lack a moral compass. Drunk on their own impression of themselves.
Someone should always seek knowledge, no matter the source, and appreciate that they still know nothing in the bigger picture.
Notice how the people to claim to be intellectuals dont actually do anything good?
They sit around and talk (talk is cheap) but none cured cancer or eliminated world hunger.
Spot on. I'm technically an intellectual, but I've managed to avoid all brainwashing all my life, and I'd never call myself that.
