Interesting book title over his shoulder. (Can't go back to ignoring little things like that anymore!) Never heard of it before. Did some looking and found a book review on scAmazon.
I read this book when I was much younger and it touched me. I bought this for my granddaughter who needed to do a report that had some historical significance. We chose this book because it described some of the struggles that young women, dealt with. This is a book about a young girl who is raped by the man she works for, becomes pregnant, is treated badly by even those closest to her. The man that raped her was not ever held acocuntable for his actions, in fact he fired her and she was treated like a pariah, as if being raped had been her fault. She was only 13 years old. What happens after is even more tragic. Why would I want her to read this you ask? Because I want to open the conversation with her that women can end up in situations that they feel they cannot control. I want her to understand that she can say no loudly and vociferously and will have the support of those who love her. I want her to know she is surrounded by love from her parents, brothers, aunts and uncles and can trust that no matter what, we will listen and care for her. She will always be our first priority and wish for no harm to ever come to her and will do all we can to protect and defend her. She will have confidence knowing she has an army behind her at all times.
