A solar EMP high up in the X class would kill all electronics connected to the power grid, telephone system, or any other long wires. It won't touch any devices that are disconnected at the time. On the other hand, an atomic EMP would kill even disconnected devices, unless housed in a Faraday cage.
I have over 30 years of backed up safe computer archives, with a ton of it printed out in binders.
If an X class solar EMP hits our side of the world, the internet is one of the last things I would worry about. Food and water, and the means to defend same.
