I've been around since Reddit, TD and TGA, Voat etc. but my account here is rather new.
I mostly lurk because first every differing opinion resulted in "handshake shill!" but now that the handshake's gone I get told how many days my old my account is and it still somehow invalidates my point.
The way I see it: If you have to defend your argument on those grounds, then it wasn't worth much anything to begin with. Treat new writers based on their message, not their profile age. Many of them are not really new at all. And conformism and agreeing humbly is not really our way.
Yes. This exactly. I feel like every point I want to make will be invalidated due to handshake even though I've been here for awhile. Enjoy reading but would like to be able to participate even if my opinion differs a bit without being called a shill
Jump in & recognize many long time posters have been threatened & raged against for years. The defensive/knee-jerk reaction is likely what the opposition wanted all along to hinder this boards growth. I have found sincerely thanking others for their time & help (even if they are clearly irate with my incompetence on their subject matter) goes a long way over time. Shills are paid to be agitators & will move along shortly from what I can tell. Those willing to accept the help & slaps when they come will find that soon there is a mutual respect on the board.
Same boat; I've been around since Pulse and was called a shill when I got here. Happily, I am sometimes a bit contrary and didn't particularly care. Still a bit of a shock and having a hearty welcome would be an improvement. Although
TD took a bit of getting used to. Maybe I should make some cookies.
