I looked up the address on Trulia - while that is the old section of PA, it says that house was built in 2003. A little early for the sprinkler mandates, but not impossible. Last sold in 2012. I can't get into the permits for Santa Clara County, but any major remodel would have required sprinkler system installation. My firm does a lot of coverage of high net worth homes. Due to fires, coverage is sky-high right now. That is a major loss.
They were using it for an office and apparently Page's foundation's address is there. It sounds like they were ignoring zoning but I would not be surprised if the city turned a blind eye either. Local news has it all as mysterious...or does no one want to say the word deliberate?
