JAQing off is “just asking questions”, but usually the questions do nothing to promote discussion or drive conversation forward.
I notice these occasionally pop up, and while it is good to discuss events that happen (positive or negative), these posts seem to start from a place of hopelessness. Not conducive to positive conversation.
And the “It’s too much and I need a break” posts.
People. I love you.
None of us are rockstars, ok? It’s awfully self-indulgent and self-important to post that you need to take a break from it all.
Just go. If you know people on the board, DM them privately and let them know. But I can’t help but view these posts as a waste of time and energy. Not to mention, it just signals shills and trolls to pile in and exacerbate the negativity.
Imagine you’re at a party, and someone just gets up and loudly says “I HAVE TO GO, I CAN’T BE HERE ANYMORE FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH.”
On the one hand, you’d be glad the person took charge and is doing something about their issue.
On the other, now the party has a weird awkward moment, and you’d look at your friends and ask, “Why didn’t he just leave?”
EDIT: u/Iceman80 brings up good points about discussion and positively guiding new users. While I will agree with the points that discussion should be had regardless, I still find posts of leaving to be ultimately fruitless.
Didn't wanna be the first to say, freedom of speech til the day I die. Scroll past, or block if you don't wish to see .
You know, fair point.
I do scroll past the types of posts I mentioned, but I see them often enough to where I had to say something.
I believe the leaving posts are self-masturbatory, but I suppose I need to step out of myself here and realize people reaching out isn’t a bad thing. It just seems unnecessary to me.
I appreciate you not scrolling past my post and taking the time.
It is necessary to HELP with others when they feel overwhelmed, there have been times I had to let up for a bit, but I believe in WWG1WGA. We don't leave the wounded behind because they can't be positive.
People are confused and asking questions. That’s what this forum is for. Get a facebook account if you want to ban people you disagree with.
Putting words in my mouth. I never said I wanted to ban individuals. I am suggesting certain topics aren’t as helpful as people think.
Not looking to ban people from the forum. Looking to clean up the conversation.
Guild them in the proper direction. The fact that they are here is a huge step. Make it a positive experience for them. Many are not familiar with our terminology like ‘shills’ and ‘glowies’. Provide a counter argument and give them something positive to consider.
GAW ate my initial reply to this.
I agree with your points of guiding people positively, be their attitude negative or positive.
For new users, do we have resources for them in the sidebar? Could a permanent landing sticky help?
I have added an edit to my post, and I thank you for taking the time to reply. While I agree on providing a positive place of discussion, I still do think the leaving posts serve little purpose.
But by feedback, it looks like those posts are a me problem and not a GAW problem. Haha
I wouldn't mind seeing them placed in a separate losers.win forum.
Of all the garbage posts on this site to call out, you chose "Asking Questions" and "I can't Take This Shit Anymore" ?
I chose the posts I felt don’t get addressed.
Which garbage posts are you referring to? Give me some examples.
Also, if you feel other posts are more pressing, bring it up and post. Be the change you want to see.
lol, no I don't care - I just scroll by and let the upvotes do their work.
Banning posts....that sounds like a totally American thing to do.
Boom, roasted. Fair point.
