Cultural shifts take time, but they are monolithic and have a momentum behind them that are impossible to halt once going. If for hundreds of years police have been generally regarded as benign, that will end after people (especially with their own eyes) see them commit violent crimes and terrorist acts with impunity. When this repeats over and over, perceptions will solidify that police are enemies of the people.
I dont think there has been a 'police killed by a violent mob' type story in a western nation in a long time. But its coming if they dont pull up from this tailspin where they look more like ISIS than a person someone would be happy having as a neighbor.

It's coming. If you know anyone who works for the police, warn them to leave now before it starts.
