It is small, but the island is loaded up with our tech and weapons systems. They have a significant air-force and missile defense system, and their 290,000 military force is all defending the island, not stationed anywhere else. It would take more than just a few days to take Taiwan, likely months, and China would suffer heavy casualties in the end. War Scenarios place the take over at lasting anywhere from 3 to 6 months without allied aid to Taiwan. Not something that could be a simple false flag event.
CCP taking Taiwan by force is a bit laughable to be quite honest.
Taiwan is built to be a fortress, down to every inch.
PLA casualties would be astronomically high per foot; they could probably make a new island with the bodies of the dead.
That's without adding in Japan and South Korea.
It's about half the size of West Virginia so I don't think it would take much to overwhelm.

Was about to note that taiwan is a SAM site porcupine by my understanding, practically anywhere a missile defence battery can be built it has.
