Some might have been insiders trying to warn, but perhaps the vast majority goes into the predictive-programming category.

The satanic 'lesser magic' doctrine.. the infernal looking more favorably on crime done openly rather than covertly, because of the sheer debasement and defilement of the spirit as well as the act itself.
