Things get crazy when the government controls things.
25 or so years ago I knew someone who was from the Netherlands. He had a Chemistry degree. At some point, the need for chemists dried up, and he was unemployed for a long time, 2-3 years, maybe more. In his home country, he was not allowed to take a job outside of his training - he was a Chemist, the country had paid for his degree to be a chemist, and he could just sit tight and receive (generous) unemployment benefits for as long as it took for a job for a chemist to open up. And he wasn't allowed to go back to school to get a degree for which he would be able to find a job.
So he eventually moved to the US, got an additional degree in IT, had a job upon graduation, and only returns to the Netherlands to visit his family.
sigh This is one of my biggest gripes with the right-wing.
People love to attack socialized education , or medicine or whatever. Im not here to pick a side in that battle, because it makes little difference to me, but it seems nobody EVER steps back and asks: OK, why is socialized medicine and education so popular with the public to begin with? And more importantly, what were the Republicans offering as an alternative to the problem that allowed the idea of socialized medicine and education to become so popular to begin with?
No one ever wants to answer that question.
Here is another question: What is the underlying reason Trump won 2016? The answer, at the end of the day, is the same reason Obama won 2008.
Something to think about.
socialized medicine and education is popular with a certain percentage of the population because people like free stuff....
what's your argument against the pic posted on this thread? why would anyone want to be at the mercy of a corrupt government (redundant)?
the reason healthcare and education is so expensive is because of corruption
student loans = guaranteed by the government = crank up tuition by orders of magnitude!
usa eats the bill on pharmaceutical R&D worldwide, illegals get free healthcare, no price transparency, forced insurance = crank up those prices!
the solution is pretty obvious... and it's certainly not following the road to slavery
we need to get out of this mindset of this battle between left vs right. we are not divided into two groups.
the battle is up vs down. the bankers, intelligence agencies, politicians, corporate oligarchs, ngos are the bad guys.
