I have two really great female dogs I need to get fixed, but the rabies shot is mandatory by state law. I haven't gotten a dog vaxxed in years. When I stopped getting their shots it was because I didn't want to pay for them and they weren't around other dogs. But now I think it was beneficial to them because all of our dogs die of really old age and they are healthy until they die. I can't opt out of the rabies shots. Any ideas? I was even thinking of finding a state were vax aren't required for dogs and get them fixed there.

I just came up against that same crap getting two rescue kitties neutered. Indoor cats. No escaping the neutering as I sure cannot have my sanctuary population breeding. I do not feel very paranoid about the rabies vaccs, tho. Having two unspayed female dogs is risky, could have an unplanned litter if there is an accidental breeding and that would not be good. You could make sure they receive the one year, minimal vacc and just never get a booster. I would not worry about negative effects. I don't vacc my adult sanctuary dogs. But if in your situation I'd go ahead. Generally speaking, the vacc I feel is most critical is for puppies, the parvo. Blessings to you and your dogs, fren
