Natural coca leaves =/= refined cocaine

Natural opium =/= refined heroin

Natural tobacco =/= commercial cigarettes

Etc.

Most drugs that are considered harmful are because the form they are used in is a purification of the active component for the purpose of getting "more bang for the buck". The other plant components that get filtered out in the manufacturing process typically serve to moderate the drug's effect. If we still treated these substances as sacred medicines and used them shamanically in their natural form maybe they wouldn't be such a plague on society.

Yes, this, exactly this.. Same with modern strains of high THC weed etc.. But those purification and refinement and actively growing more potent strains in my opinion relate to the forced illegality of said 'drugs'.
