How about plants that have super doses of vitamin c, d and trace amounts of all the others? Too unpatentable?

Remember in the fuzzy past where there was this constant assurance and drum-beat that advanced technology would make everything better? And now here we are watching terrorists create bioweapon salad. I guess nerve gas is too passe and is no longer considered cool.

Fuck that noise.

If you are in the northern hemisphere, we are entering the cool season and there are lots of interresting leafy greens you can grow with incredible amounts of vitamins like C, K, and so on. Broccoli is high in C, so are peas, you can grow both right now strait through winter if you are in a warm zone. You get D from the sun and pastured animals.

Heirloom varieties. Find and befriend an old farmer with a seed collection. Learn how to harvest seeds. LEarn how to garden. Learn how to can, dehydrate and store. Never stop learning.

Researchers at a U.S.-based university have received a federal grant to study whether they can genetically engineer plants to carry Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines.

The University of California Riverside announced in a Sept. 16 article on their website a project to examine “whether they can turn edible plants like lettuce into mRNA vaccine factories.” The endeavor has received a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation and will be in collaboration with UC San Diego and Carnegie Mellon University.

The article says the experiment has three goals:

Implanting “DNA containing the mRNA vaccines” into the “part of plant cells where it will replicate”; Demonstrating the plants can carry enough mRNA to be the same as an injection; and Determining dosage. The leader of the project, Riverside’s Juan Pablo Giraldo, said, “Ideally, a single plant would produce enough mRNA to vaccinate a single person,” adding the experiment is being done on spinach and lettuce with both “long-term goals of people growing it in their own gardens” and mass industrial production.

The article says that researchers intend to engineer the plants’ chloroplasts, tiny mechanisms analogous to solar panels, to “express genes that aren’t naturally part of the plant.”

Giraldo has achieved this result in previous studies “by sending foreign genetic material into plant cells inside a protective casing,” notes the article.

The process described is directly analogous to how the current generation of mRNA vaccines work in the human body. While conventional vaccines utilize an inactivated version of the virus one wishes to elicit an antibody response against, mRNA vaccines deliver billions of mRNA instructions into your cells, causing your cells to grow the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The spike protein is the iconic protrusions covering a corona (crown) virus, which the virus uses as a key to access cells for infection and replication. The mRNA approach causes the body to generate antibodies in response to the synthetically grown spike protein, rather than the full viral structure.

In order to get the mRNA instructions from the injection site and past the cellular membrane, the genetic material is encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles, a man-made fat.

A March of 2021 article from Chemical and Engineering News explains the encapsulation in detail, “mRNA is incredibly delicate. Enzymes in the environment and in our bodies are quick to chop mRNA into pieces, making lab experiments difficult and the delivery of mRNA to our cells daunting. On top of that, mRNA strands are large and negatively charged and can’t simply waltz across the protective lipid membranes of cells.”

“To protect the fragile molecule as it sneaks into cells, they turned to a delivery technology with origins older than the idea of mRNA therapy itself: tiny balls of fat called lipid nanoparticles, or LNPs.”

The article continues, “LNPs used in the COVID-19 vaccines contain just four ingredients: ionizable lipids whose positive charges bind to the negatively charged backbone of mRNA, pegylated lipids that help stabilize the particle, and phospholipids and cholesterol molecules that contribute to the particle’s structure.”

“Thousands of these four components encapsulate mRNA, shield it from destructive enzymes, and shuttle it into cells, where the mRNA is unloaded and used to make proteins.”

The article notes Giraldo is working on a second project, backed by a $1.6 million grant from the NSF, to use nanomaterials to inject nitrogen fertilizer directly into the chloroplasts of plants in an attempt to prevent farmers from having to add fertilizer to their soil.

Discussion appreciated

I don't need convincing about having stored food, water etc. but I'm curious about how far people take prepping and one particular item that I've been thinking about but haven't pulled the trigger on is a CBRN gas mask, just curious what people's thoughts are regarding gas masks and other similar extra layers of preparation.

Don't waste your money on chem or nuke protection. A chemical attack won't come in the form of crop dusters spraying sarin gas over populations. It comes in the form of fentanyl. Avoid fentanyl and you'll be fine. Same for nuke. Sure, if you want to keep some Iostat pill handy, it can't hurt, but if you have to worry about a nuclear explosion, you're fucked anyhow.

Bio is a different story. The vax is a bioweapon. COVID is a bioweapon. Having meds to counter is important - ivermectin, HCQ, Cipro, Z-pack plus the supplements are all powerful countermeasures.

I do have BLS2 level PPE, primarily in a MASCAS event, it'll be handy, especially if the dead have to be disposed of.

FWIW, I've lived under the specter of these threats my whole life (DC resident). Whether here, or deployed in foreign countries, it's always been a concern.

I can't stress the importance of learning about water purification and having multiple methods on-hand. I keep 8 X 55 gal drums of stabilized water in my basement plus stacks of cases of water. Multiple Berkey filters with spare cartridges. All of the other prep stuff is pretty obvious - food, pet food, meds, first aid, batteries, candles, tarps, cash and more cash and some junk silver. The list goes on.

Lemme know if you have more questions.

And I hope Doge goes to the moon - I have 15MM coins, I believe.

Thanks for the response. I tend to agree about the nuke question. I also highly doubt a nuke would be used where I live and they only have a relatively small area of effect right? It's probably a silly question given my last conclusion but do you think a Geiger counter is at all worth it? As far as my reasons for getting some kind of mask I think I've just wondered whether the police or a military force may use tear gas or similar on the people.

I'm going to investigate getting some Ivermectin etc. from India, I think my options are limited in this regard being in Australia.

Your comment about water purification is valid and I need to ensure I develop some more knowledge in that area. I do have some purification tablets and a sawyer mini but nothing crazy--a Berkey is on my list of future acquisitions. They have two kinds of filters right? Do you store both or just one kind?

I actually kinda regret choosing this name as it was mostly just a funny trend to me at the time and I sold my measly portion a good while ago--all the best with yours though!

The Berkey has double or quadruple filters. The black filters IIRC filter out chemicals and heavy metals and the white ones filter out pathogens. I'd also have backup filters. If you are going to be filtering turbid water, you may want to consider building a sand filter to pre-filter the water - this will vastly extend the life of the filters. Remember, you will need a minimum of 1 gal/day/pp.

I don't own a Geiger counter and I live at Ground Zero. Spend the money on other more valuable items. Also, make sure you have Where There is No Doctor in PDF. Also same books available for dentist and vet. Also have a book for local medicinal herbs. And a first aid book. Read and learn.

You mentioned water stabilisation, is that necessary and if so is it a pretty simple process?
