Technically it’s name is 2005 QN173. The first part is the year of discovery. The letter Q refers to the half month it was discovered in, Q is for the last half of August. N173 refers to that asteroids place in order of discoveries for that half. So there were a bunch of asteroids found in that period [to lazy to do the math 8^) ].
