Well done. You were lucky to find some good information about it, and not fall for the propaganda.

You can still buy it for water treatment for camping. It wasn't just used for water treatment, but also added to blood bags for sterilization and to prevent blood clots. There's a patented cancer treatment involving injecting it into tumors too.
