Most consumers aren't seeing a big impact yet, but it's coming. I work for a manufacturing and distribution company... the supply chain issues are real, both domestically and internationally. We're seeing inflated prices right now on certain goods, and they will become more noticeable and pronounced in the months to come. Domestically, it's becoming difficult to get boxes, plastic, steel, aluminum and ingredients to make adhesives and shipping costs are through the roof. Our customers on the resale side (big box stores) are experiencing major delays in receiving products from us and the majority of their suppliers, plus their paying a lot more for what they do get because we can't afford to absorb all of the added expenses ourselves. Consumers should expect to have to pay more for pretty much everything in the near future. This isn't fear mongering, it's reality, and this is just for the domestic stuff. Even if your mantra is to always buy American, you may be surprised to learn that a lot of the "American made" stuff you are used to is made of components which come from China and other countries. Of course, you can claim it's all a conspiracy, BUT it is reality. This country is YEARS away from being able to manufacture our own goods... YEARS away. And any decisions we make in that vein will have a global impact. Once we stop importing, we'll stop exporting... every country that participates in the global supply chain wants to export as well as import. If we don't buy their stuff, they are going to lose interest in buying ours.
I'm a small business owner, and my wholesale suppliers have had empty shelves for months now. It's become almost impossible to stay in business. I cannot get the items needed to fill my orders. I'm a florist. If it's metal or plastic, it can't be found. Glass vases are in extremely short supply. I've been in business for 50 years, and I've never seen shortages like this, with no end in sight.
Same here. It seems more of the shortages are directed at small businesses in every industry.
I'm so sorry for your troubles.🥺
How have you been getting by? Used / second hand vases & such or what?
Are you just buying all you can when you get the chance so you have stuff for next week, next month, etc?
How's the flower business thru all this scam-demic anyway?
Yes, I've been scouring thrift stores for used vases and baskets, but so is everyone else, so supplies there are low too. Florists have been reduced to buying back supplies from cemeteries who have removed dead flowers from graves, and the containers and wire easels are still good. I try not to buy more than I need in the next few weeks. I don't want to cut another struggling florist out of what they need to function. There has been a global flower shortage since the start of this whole mess last year. Many growers had to dump millions of dollars in cut flowers because of the lockdown. Lots couldn't take that financial hit and went out of business, causing a shortage when things opened up again. Prices have increased dramatically. White roses increased in price by a whopping 400% in four weeks.
Oh holy cow. I'm sorry to hear that. This is ridiculous what [they] have done to us..... 🤬🤬🤬💀💀💀
