It's a joke, right? I mean, that's how they intend for it to come across.
I came across something 20 or so years ago that explained the psychology of using humor to introduce ideas into the population that are disagreeable, taboo or counter to social norms. The point was that humor is a great vehicle for changing people's thinking without them being aware of it - making radical concepts and lifestyle's "more acceptable".

Yes and if it lands wrong you always have the cop out “oh I was just joking”. There is always at least a grain of truth in all jokes.
