I can't remember who said it, but it burned into my brain "national treasures, are national assets" said about celebrities. Literally very few people get famous, or at least lasting fame, without being controlled by intelligence agencies.

"The Culture War" waged against the USSR, wasn't to fight the USSR it was to take over America. They thought we'd follow the stars.
