And guess who Jefferson clashed with on this? The left's new hero, Alexander Hamilton. Let's all sing.
The Left has also undertaken to dismantle Thomas Jefferson's legacy. This summer, I traveled to Monticello thinking I would have access to the preferred homestead of one of our greatest minds and founding fathers.
What I found was, essentially, a slavery museum. There were wide-sweeping exhibits about Sally Hemmings, the potential children and progeny of Jefferson's affair with her, and details of how much of a hypocrite Jefferson was for writing "all men are created equal." I commented to my friend as we departed: "It was nice to visit the Hemmings home and learn about her boyfriend Tom Jefferson."
I left Monticello enraged that the Left managed to seep their way not only into random museums, but into the actual homes of the founders - and either rewrote or hijacked their history.
All lies...................read "The Jefferson Lies" by David Barton. Watch his videos on youtube......over 120K original documents from our country's history. Our real history is fascinating and liberating. We must know how we began, why we began, how did they really set up this country? What are our true rights? What is our government REALLY supposed to be doing? What about our local public servants? What have they done to our country and to us over the years to strip us of pretty much everything?
I'll definitely check this out. I was sickened when I left Monticello.
I'll say this though: Mount Vernon was a great way to end that trip to VA. The order of things there is "God, Country, George Washington." It was exactly what I needed to get the taste of Monticello out of my mouth.
They've been quite successful in smearing most of our wonderful founders, destroying their historic statues, and teaching vicious lies about our history for many years now. And yes, it truly is God first in our country, then the people who created the Constitution which created our Republic. Last in this hierarchy are our public servants at any level of government.
What people have been also lied to about is the fact that America WAS and IS a Christian nation. We lived by those principles for many years, invited others with different religions to enjoy our freedom and become part of our nation. Sometimes I think that might have been a divisive mistake. Our Bible was a rich part of our early history and carried through to the early 1900s (I believe). Yes, many things went wrong, not the least was the decision to delay dealing with the issue of slavery. The further we get away from our Christian foundation, the more depravity we see. There is no law that people must worship God or be Christian BUT we have laws and principles that made our Republic very unique. Without the rule of law, we have nothing. We also must have enough Christian people who are committed to our God.
What a terrible thing to do to Jefferson's home.
I haven't been to Monticello in years. It certainly didn't used to be like that. I thought they never proved that Jefferson and not his hellion nephew(s) fathered those children?
Doesn't surprise me though. Charlottesville is uber liberal. Probably why it was chosen for the anti-Trump show they put on there. I absolutely believe that the mayor and governor orchestrated that to harm Trump.
It's funny you mention this. The place acts like it was 100% fact that Jefferson fathered Hemmings' children.
Then, buried deep into a written exhibit, there were these interesting bits:
the first mention of the Jefferson/Slave Affair was written by political opponents running against Jefferson in the 1800 election. It was used to slander him.
It was common practice for guests to sleep with slaves. Buried even further was this: Thomas Jefferson's brother Randolph had close relations with the slaves of Monticello - to the point that they referred to him as "Uncle Randolph."
The DNA used proved that one child born of Hemmings was a Jefferson. However, Monticello was frequented by many Jefferson males. The DNA match was never made directly to Thomas. It was linked to a "male Jefferson."
All of this counter-evidence was disregarded because "Thomas Jefferson was the most likely candidate."
Also, there was an exhibit that heavily implied Jefferson raped Hemmings. The entire rationale for this was "Hemmings couldn't consent. She had no rights."
So not only did Monticello bend over backwards to make Jefferson the father of her children - he was also her rapist.
I cannot explain to you how angry I was when I left Monticello. They completely disgraced him in his own home.
Only a liberal hellhole could do something like that to one of the most intelligent, patriotic, visionary men to grace this planet.
It's been years, but I'm certain there was I believe two nephews who were, well, hellions is the best word and one of them was believed to be the father.
Yes, the political muck in Jefferson's day would almost put CNN to shame.
I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience at Monticello. It used to be wonderful, especially when the gardens were in bloom/fruit. I'm afraid to recommend Williamsburg, who knows what they've done there.
Oh, yeah.
