Racine has been a publishing powerhouse for generations. It's where NPR was founded, at Wingspread, and the first Disney books were published there, as well as the best selling childrens books of all time, Little Golden Books.
These books were published out of the same building that formerly housed Dr Shoop, one of the biggest snake oil salesmen in history whose products were so widely distributed that at one time his business was shipping 600,000 bottles a day across the country. He was one of the catalysts for the FDA forming. To this day, there is still a golf course named in honor of doctor Shoop at Wind Point, where all the rich people in Racine live.
Fitting, seeing as how the mayor of Racines brother helped to develop the Covid spit test.
I noticed that “Country” Magazine is headquartered in Racine. I hope they aren’t mixed up in any of that.
