I’ve had members here say VILE things about my Faith, been told I’m a pedophile just bc I'm Catholic, ALL CATHOLICS ARE PEDOS, I’m a pagan, I worship idols, I’m Satan, satanic, etc.,etc., etc....all the same LIES & IGNORANT BULLSHIT I put up with by everyone else, everywhere else. People have actually quit this group because of the toxicity at GA.
If you feel the need to spout off with an anti-Catholic comment here, you’re exactly the piece of work I’m addressing.
Unity? WWG1WGA, except for Catholics?
Going to hit on a point you didn't reference. So, I've been to mass many times in many places. Does it bother anyone else how relics are worshipped? Whether it be a gilded chalice or cross or even a super ornate antique bible.... Why all the worshipping towards "items"? Everything from kissing them to groveling at them to smacking themselves on the head with said relics.....
Yes I realize they are holy symbols... But, this seems like idolatry to me. You don't open your heart and soul up to some golden cup, cross, or even bible IMO.... A personal internal bond with Christ is all you need. The whole charade of worshipping items just seems wrong to me.
Same goes for all the Saints and shit too. I believe this is where Catholocism is flawed. They are making a ritual out of glorifying and sancitfying people and things...
Just my two cents.
I’m happy to clear it up. You’re confusing worship with reverence. A kiss is reverence. ONLY THE TRIUNE GOD is to be worshipped; anything else is idolatry, a damning sin against the First Commandment. That being said, the Chalice holds the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity of Christ, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. Because He is there in the Chalice, He is to be worshipped. Not the Chalice. A crucifix is only a reminder of His Sacrifice, not to be worshipped. I hope that helps.
Ok, I can follow along with that. Thanks for the outline there.
But what about sancitfying humans as saints. Elevating them to a divine status?
Surely that cannot be the same "reverence"?
After vigorous vetting, the Church doesn’t declaring Saints as anything but most probably in heaven. And even the Church isn’t putting them there, that’s God’s decision. They’re not Divine, only God is. If a person dies specifically for the Faith, they’re automatically in heaven, a true martyr.
Latria is the worship given to God alone. Hyperdulia is the reverence given to Mary, because she bore God the Son. Dulia is the reverence given to saints.
