You guys need to check out the Black Mirror episode "San junipero".

It's not a coincidence that he keeps mentioning VR and a virtual world.

My guess is they are trying to create a digital world for their souls, to escape death and punishment.

I've heard rumblings there is an AI cult in Silicone Valley, that worships AI as our coming masters, and are trying to find a way to "become one" with them, when it finally happens.

Not that I believe they will be successful. But it's interesting that facebook is now focusing so hard on "virtual worlds".
