Not everyone needs bread. Let’s say somebody has plenty - but why would they sell you some? Your money isn’t worth anything due to inflation. So they ask for something that has value - gold historically has had value in every civilization in the world. So you give them gold for your bread. Look at the historical value of silver in Germany. Look at the Tulip bubble. I hope this helped.
