Nestle tried to patent it about a decade ago, they very nearly succeed as well despite it being a plant.

I don't know why they didn't, all of a sudden they withdrew their application, my guess is they were given a lethal fatwah argument as to why they should stop it.

Their shareholders wouldn't like the worlds muslims to boycott their goods, or kill anyone who sells them..
