I don't understand this obsession against electric cars. I can generate and store my own solar power at home and power my vehicle that starts out with higher manufactured emissions, but is much less polluting after its first 13,000 miles, even from coal power, as efficiency of power generation at scale is way higher. And we are just beginning. My next solar farm will be larger, my next car more efficient, and companies like Straubel's Redwood Materials are growing and will one day eliminate rare earth mining, making this a no contest improvement on mile 1.
The lefties thought this was wonderful too, then Tesla refused pay to play politics, are creating American manufacturing mastery again....the result? TESLA gets ignored at Biden EV summit and excluded from full tax credits (ie made less competitive) given to UAW manufacturers.
This shouldn't be awakened vs woke, lib vs conservative, another false dichotomy everyone is falling for. Yes EVs are the better technology, they accidentally point people towards a future of individual energy independence. All this photo shows is that some idiot forgot how to hear and see all of the trip notices from the car, refuses to get towed, and is using a generator in a rare case, not a base case.
In a world where everyone has their own acreage, with geothermal heating, solar power, battery storage, and an EV, the government would lose all control. People could grow their own food or specialize and trade locally. In this utopia, local community is king, not fruit from Mexico, oil from OPEC, and power from Canada. EVs are an important peice of this puzzle.
Sorry for the rant, but I just want my frens to rethink the dichotomy and propaganda from both libs and cons on this stuff.
How well does that electric car work when you run your battery dead on the freeway or far out on a country road? Do you walk to the nearest electric station and bring some electricity back to the car?
I have no problem with renewables. Your right to a certain point. The biggest part with be the hazards of the batteries that no one is talking about.
Electric is the future. But they have to slowly implement it into the system, instead of just going… we are going electric now fuck you.
You also have to remember, only first world countries have the money and infrastructure for renewables. So until the rest of the world catches up, they will be using fossil fuels to charge their electric vehicles
Sure but hating on Teslas as a result of liberals pushing electric cars is one of the most ironic things you could do.
A gallon of gasoline is a gallon of gasoline (until it breaks down) and you can take it with you to extend range if you are going to be away from stations for awhile. The closest option is to buy a high capacity charger unit at wherever your hub becomes - which can be improbable, especially if you are going more than one charge will carry you.
Assessments of "less pollution" also depend on not understanding how much energy loss there is to get coal fired production into your vehicle. 1mW has to be generated, transfered, stored, transfered, and then stored into your battery before being put to use. Each transition, even if we are generous and say 90% (it's not 90% in the real world) at each point of transfer, you need to generate about 52% more energy (90% efficiency across 4 transitions).
Battery EVs are, simply, the luxury of the ultra rich. They are used as a virtue signal of how much the ultra rich care.
The only way you achieve "reduced emissions" is by getting a small high efficiency diesel generator attached to the electric car - a hybrid. This way you reduce the amount of fuel consumption, don't have range issues and you only lose to one generators' efficiency and not the power grid's.
But with a hybrid, you aren't entirely reliant on the government's generosity, so it's not breathlessly extolled at every opportunity about solar panels, windmills, and electric vehicles.
...and the embodied energy used to make these cars and that’s not mentioning the child labour used.....
But Hey.... it’s good for the environment..... Durch!

Looks like it's in a country that severely lacks in infrastructure too
