The AMA gives itself the exclusive rights to be the gatekeepers for genuinely useful substances like antibiotics, antifungals, and antiparasitics (vitamins soon to be added to the list). This gives them a certain legitimacy to most people and enables them to push their patented pharma crap, which almost exclusively treat symptoms without curing anything.
I've often wondered, why don't some based Docs start the "American Medical Cooperative" and start 'blessing' cures just like the AMA? Why should the AMA have the monopoly? Basically start an open source version of the AMA with a solid group of Docs that can argue and reason.
