Got is not cruel, he is Just and Righteous. His Character demands judgement of sin. God can do everything but also, some things he cannot do; 1)Learn, 2) Sin, 3) Lie. There is a reason anyone who had even his presence near them fell on their faces with the extreme awareness of their own sinful(flesh) nature. Light will not tolerate darkness, and darkness flees from light. God requires the sin be judged, for God is Holy, Holy, Holy. And without his gift of repentence throught the shedding of His(Jesus) blood, there is no forgiveness, only the price which is very high; death. We are wicked sinful creatures without His Spirit. Remember Moses had to cover his face after he came down the mountain, having just looked upon God?
