We have a well, cistern and generator. Worst comes to worst, guess we'lll have to use a hand crank. Family and friends thought we were crazy for moving to the middle of nowhere. Over the past two years, some have realized why.

We considered a generator but so much of it needs electricity ex. to pump gas to your house etc. I didnt realize there was a hand crank possibility. And smart on you guys for moving to rural America!
