These guys claimed to be representing the Proud Boys in the emails. For anyone with a brain it becomes clear that they were acting on behalf of anti-Trump interests due to the fact that they were trying to link their intimidating behavior to a group that is famously reported on as being a "far-right extremist organization". If they were genuinely trying to intimidate people into voting for Trump, they wouldn't have left a calling card as to who they were, especially not a false calling card.
They were clearly baiting media coverage which would be framed negatively for Trump.
