Proton Mail? Is is ok or has it been compromised?

Hello all, there has been a stream of conflicting views on the privacy of Proton Mail. Is there a Email service that has been agreed upon as being the most secure? thanks for your input.

I did have a weird thing happen last week on protonmail. Tried twice to send pics to another email addr and neither ever showed up.
