Eden, if not a metaphor, is another interesting example. God knew they were going to eat from the tree. Why put it there in the first place? Why tempt humans? Creating heaven on Earth wasn't enough?
Free will. God doesn’t want us to be robots on autopilot. He sets laws that are for our own good, but we have to ability to disobey. But those actions will have consequences because those choices exposes us to sin. We were created in His image, so we are creative and intelligent beings. Did God know we would eat from the tree? He definitely knew it was a possibility. You are forgetting a major factor…satan. Just like we fell, satan fell first. Satan and his adversaries despise humans. He sees us as cattle and wants to exterminate us. Angels also have free will. So what I believe is that although God knew we could fall and rebel against Him, He thinks we are worth it. And was willing to become human and die a horrific and humiliating death to save us from the darkness and sin that satan tricked our forefathers and continues to trick us today.

God is “slow to anger”. He is hoping and waiting for His children to come around so that we all can be saved and adopted into the Kingdom, to rule and reign on earth for eternity basking in His presence. Paradise.
