Got a Japanese neighbor in San Francisco who asked me for plumbing help, I know multiple trades.
While checking his leaking faucet issue, he asked me if I'm vaccinated. Told him "No.". He ran to grab his mask, slapped it on, and promptly started educating me in why I should have it, especially with a new born.
I ignore his "educational" tirade, and told him what to do to fix his leak, asked me if he wants me to fix today. He said another time, so I went home.
Two days later, at 3am, I heard a power tool outside, so I got up to take a peek out side the window. There was a SUV parked next to his old Toyota car, guy with headlamp, working under his car. I thought catalyst converter theft with a Sawsahl, so I took a picture and video to share with him the next day.
Next day me and another neighbor, Chinese, shared with him what happened. Japanese neighbor complaining that he can't believe crime is creeping into our neighborhood. I responded, the cops will not do anything and it's San Francisco, what did he expect.
Told him to do a police report and report it to his insurance.
I couldn't stop laughing internally.
Typical American these days. Take a video and a picture of a crime happening, instead of doing anything about it. Great job. Did you call the police? No you just laughed and thought it was funny. Good for you. I’m glad you’re not my neighbor. It shouldn’t matter if somebody thinks you should wear a mask or not, what matters is if somebody is trying to steal your neighbors car, or steal a catalytic converter, that you might at least call the police to do something. I don’t know if they would show up or not, but at least making an effort to do so. It takes a while to take a catalytic converter off of a vehicle, so that person had to be there for quite some time. It could’ve been avoided. But we got that picture didn’t we! Congratulations I’m so proud of you!
You must not understand how San Francisco works. If he goes out and tries to stop this crime from happening and violence escalates, he would likely become a criminal.
He lives in an area where defending yourself and/or your property can easily put you in the crosshairs of the justice system.
All he had to do was call the police. If he would’ve done that, they could’ve come out. Now if they don’t come out, that’s not on him because it’s up to the police. But making a simple phone call or somebody’s under another vehicle, with a circular saw of some kind, trying to remove an item that would take at least an hour, would’ve been at least the neighborly thing to do. But no he had his panties in a wad about his neighbor ask him about wearing a mask or getting vaccinated that’s why he didn’t call. Because now we’re becoming part of the problem. When you can’t even pick up the phone call and call 911 to notify somebody that a crime is occurring - Then we’ve got some serious problems.
Cops won’t respond to property theft anymore in SF. Waste of their time and puts OP at risk so no he shouldn’t bother calling the police
